⚙️ Selection Process – Post Nos. 813 to 817
Selection has two stages: Written Test followed by a Skill Test. The written test is 90 minutes long and contains 80 multiple-choice questions carrying one mark each. Every wrong answer attracts a deduction of 0.33 mark. Candidates are shortlisted for the Skill Test in a 1:5 ratio, with a minimum of 10 candidates. The Skill Test is qualifying in nature on a “go-no-go” basis, and its marks are not added to the final merit.
| Category | Written Test Pass Mark | Skill Test Pass Mark |
|---|---|---|
| Unreserved Candidates | 32 / 80 | 50 / 100 |
| Reserved Candidates* | 24 / 80 | 40 / 100 |
βΉ️ Final Merit:Among candidates who qualify the Skill Test, final selection is based on written-test marks. If written-test scores are tied, marks in the notified academic qualification act as the tie-breaker. EWS candidates follow the Unreserved selection standard.
π₯ Fireman A Selection Process – Post No. 802
Fireman 'A' follows a separate process: Written Test → Physical Efficiency Test (PET) → Detailed Medical Examination (DME). Applicants must also submit the prescribed Preliminary Medical Examination (PME) certificate with the application.
| Written Test | Details |
|---|---|
| Questions / Marks | 80 MCQs / 80 Marks |
| Duration | 120 Minutes |
| Negative Marking | 0.25 mark for each wrong answer |
| Shortlisting for PET | Up to 1:50 ratio, subject to prescribed PME norms |
π PET:Stage-1 PET is followed by Stage-2 PET for those who qualify. PET events are purely “go-no-go”; failing any event disqualifies the candidate from the remaining events. Candidates clearing both stages undergo DME, and final empanelment is drawn in written-test merit order from candidates who qualify DME.

π‘ Student-Friendly Summary
Diploma holders in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering should focus on Technical Assistant posts. ITI/NTC/NAC candidates in Electronic Mechanic, Fitter or Draughtsman (Mechanical) trades can check the corresponding Level-3 vacancies. Candidates with only SSLC/SSC can consider Fireman 'A', but that post has additional medical, physical-fitness and PET requirements. Because each post has a different qualification and selection route, choosing the correct post number before registration is important.
π― Which Post Should You Check First?
If you hold a first-class 3-year Diploma in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering, start with the relevant Technical Assistant post. ITI/NTC/NAC holders should match their exact trade with Electronic Mechanic, Fitter or Draughtsman (Mechanical). Fireman 'A' is different from the technical trades: an SSLC/SSC qualification may satisfy the academic requirement, but the candidate must also meet the notified medical and physical-efficiency conditions. Do not choose a post merely because its age limit suits you; the exact qualification/trade requirement is equally important.
✅ 60-Second Eligibility Check Before Applying
- ✓Step 1 – Match the post number: Confirm that your Diploma or ITI/NTC/NAC trade is exactly the one prescribed for that vacancy.
- ✓Step 2 – Check your age: Calculate your age on 4 September 2026 and apply category relaxation only where the notification permits it.
- ✓Step 3 – Check the location: Note whether the vacancy is at Valiamala or Bengaluru. Initial posting is linked to the unit shown against the vacancy, although future transfer within ISRO/Department of Space is possible.
- ✓Step 4 – Understand the test: Technical/ITI posts use Written Test + Skill Test, while Fireman 'A' has Written Test + PET + medical examination.
- ✓Step 5 – Keep proof ready: Your qualification, category and other claims must be supported by the certificates required in the advertisement.
⚠️ Common Application Mistakes to Avoid
- ✓Wrong trade selection: Similar technical qualifications should not be assumed to be interchangeable. Apply only when your qualification matches the notified discipline/trade.
- ✓Assuming the initial payment is the final fee: LPSC uses a refund-based fee arrangement. The refund depends on appearing in the written test and on the candidate category.
- ✓Incorrect bank details: Because eligible refunds are processed online, carefully verify the account holder name, account number and IFSC entered in the application.
- ✓Ignoring negative marking: Post Nos. 813–817 deduct 0.33 mark for a wrong answer, while the Fireman 'A' written test deducts 0.25 mark.
- ✓Waiting until the closing hour: Complete registration and payment early enough to correct avoidable upload/payment problems before the respective deadlines.
π§ Written Test Strategy – What the Notification Means for You
For Post Nos. 813–817, the Skill Test is qualifying rather than merit-scoring. This makes the Written Test especially important because candidates who clear the Skill Test are finally ranked using their Written Test marks. Accuracy also matters because each incorrect answer costs 0.33 mark. For Fireman 'A', the written score remains important for merit, but physical and medical fitness are additional qualifying hurdles. A sensible preparation plan should therefore combine written-test accuracy with post-specific skill or physical preparation instead of treating every LPSC vacancy in the same way.
π³ Understand the Fee Refund With an Example
The amount paid while submitting the form is not necessarily the amount finally retained as the application fee. For example, a candidate covered by the ₹750 initial-payment group who is not in a fee-exempt category and appears in the Written Test is eligible for refund of the balance after ₹250 is retained, subject to the notification's conditions. For the ₹500 initial-payment group, the corresponding retained fee for a non-exempt candidate is ₹100. Fee-exempt categories can receive the full applicable amount back after appearing in the Written Test. Candidates who do not attend the Written Test should not expect the same refund benefit.
❓ Quick Questions Students May Have

- ✓Is the Skill Test counted in final merit for Posts 813–817? No. It is qualifying in nature; final merit among Skill-Test-qualified candidates is based on Written Test marks.
